The responsibilities of Trustees for the proper and prudent
management and administration of permanent trusts differ from those
of a non-Trustee manager of investments or a business. We offer
extensive experience in advising Trustees concerning their duties
and in representing Trustees embroiled in litigation.
One of our principals serves as special California trust
counsel for what is perhaps the largest private trust in the United
States. The trust was established by an historical figure, and the
family continues to command public attention, with all of the attendant
sensitivities involved in the Trustee decision-making process.
On occasion our attorneys have even been called upon to act
as Trustee. One is currently serving as a Trustee to settle a long
neglected trust estate, the owner of which died nine years ago,
with multiple family issues and controversies. No family member
was willing to serve because of the deep family emotions involving
the trust settlement.
